Sascha Oppowa, the Project Director for the CASE initiative, recently provided an update on the SIPET program's progress since its launch in September 2022. Participants were given an overview of the latest developments in the project.

About SIPET’s Project Mapping Tool:

Our tool is engineered to mitigate the challenges of isolated planning, and duplicated efforts among stakeholders. By providing a centralized repository of detailed, up-to-date information on clean energy programs, we aim to actively bolster concerted actions to support, accelerate, and build capacity towards sustainable energy solutions in Southeast Asia. This tutorial will guide you on how to upload your relevant program information on the platform.

Currently, we showcase 200+ Energy Transition projects across the region, representing collective donor funding of $8.7 billion.

Becoming a SIPET Member offers a multitude of advantages, enabling you to actively engage in and contribute to the energy transition ecosystem. As a SIPET Member:

Samart Kumar, program manager at Agora Energiewende, and Judit Hecke, climate policy analyst at NewClimate Institute, introduced SIPET’s Power Sector Data Browser and complementary Power Sector Snapshots. During the presentation, Samart explained the database-building process, which utilized primary data sources from ministries, governments, utilities, and generation companies, while Judit provided a virtual walkthrough of the Data Browser and Snapshots

Dr. Siripha Junlakarn, researcher at the Energy Research Institute (ERI) at Chulalongkorn University, , commended the standardized approach to data in the database, as it improved data conformity and facilitated efficient comparative analysis.

Ngoan Nghiem Thi, Energy advisor at GIZ Vietnam, expressed that the validated data sets and visualization provided by the data browser were useful in effectively communicating information to colleagues and government partners.

Jephraim Manansala, Chief Data Scientist at Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), stressed the importance of data and information for driving the energy transition.
