Report launch Navigating energy security and the transition to net-zero in Southeast Asia
The evolving global energy landscape presents a pivotal moment for Indonesia, Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Thailand, the focus countries of the project “Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia”. The COP28 outcome to globally transition away from fossil fuels affirms the need for significant shifts in the countries’ energy systems. While renewables are gaining traction in the region and green hydrogen appears increasingly accessible, the countries heavily rely on fossil fuels and government plans increase their use to meet growing demands. In this webinar, the CASE team presents opportunities and challenges in shifting the energy sectors of the CASE countries to largely decarbonised systems. We compare the role of electrification and gaseous energy carriers in this transition, and discuss how different choices impact energy security. The input presentation is followed by reactions from energy experts in the CASE countries and a “Q&A” session.

Net Zero 101 Media Training
At a time when more businesses in the Philippines are claiming that they are prioritising sustainability and shifting towards net zero, the role of media as storytellers and scrutineers has never been more critical. The rapidly evolving business and policy landscape is changing what it means to be sustainable, which, in turn, is influencing how investors and key stakeholders view environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. This will affect how ESG-focused news is perceived. With scientists worldwide agreeing that the planet must reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 to stay within the 1.5-degree Celsius threshold, the media needs to develop subject matter expertise to critically and analytically report on the topic in a way that has impact. To upskill journalists, media practitioners, and communicators in impactful storytelling on net zero, the Net Zero Carbon Alliance, the largest private sector group advancing the country’s progress on carbon neutrality.
