Enhancing readiness for solar power deployment in Viet Nam
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The Viet Nam Energy Sector Assessment, Strategy, and Roadmap, identifies support for energy efficiency and renewable energy generation as one of the five key areas for 2016 to 2020. The S-KSTA provides a substantive entry into the renewable energy space in response to the government's increased emphasis and identified financing requirements.

Main outputs are:

Asssessment of Regulations and Law

Assessment of the Potential pojets

Recommendations for future TA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

ADB recognizes the opportunity for Viet Nam to transition away from such strong reliance on fossil fuels in the face of declining reserves. The S-KSTA proposes to assess the current conditions for utility-scale solar deployment, including the market and grid conditions. It will also undertake an initial screening of the projects proposed for ADB assistance for technical and financial viability.

Impact

Contribution of electricity supply from solar energy increased to 0.5% in 2020 and 3.3% in 2030. (National Master Plan for Power Development for the 2011 2020 Period with the Vision to 2030)

Emission intensity per unit GDP by 20% decreased compared to 2010 levels. (Intended Nationally Determined Contribution of Viet Nam)
