PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The initiative informs the country with green economies policy making through modelling and assessment.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Indonesia has been advancing its Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI) since its launch at UNFCCC COP 23, aiming to integrate carbon reduction targets and environmental sustainability into the country’s development planning framework. As part of the 2020–2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) conducted a Strategic Environmental Assessment using system dynamics modelling to assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts of various development scenarios. In 2018, Indonesia joined the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), a global initiative led by UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, UNDP, and UNITAR, which supports countries in aligning economic policies with sustainability objectives to foster growth, job creation, poverty reduction, and ecological resilience. PAGE Indonesia, led by UNDP, focuses on three main outcomes: integrating inclusive green economy (IGE) goals into national planning, implementing sectoral reforms aligned with IGE priorities, and strengthening institutional and individual capacities for IGE action. To initiate the program, UNDP Indonesia is currently preparing a stocktaking report, which will serve as the basis for developing the full PAGE project document.
