Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development (TRANSCEND)
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The project will be implemented by a consortium formed by the GIZ. UNIDO is participating as a consortium partner, to lead the component on Low Carbon Economy, particularly the sub-topic on Climate Smart Industries and Services (Output 3). Output 3 will focus on the provision of direct support to the selected Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in small-scale manufacturing and food processing sectors, in building their capacity in the climate-smart, energy efficient operations, and developing specific supporting policies at national level.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Philippines remain highly vulnerable to climate change impacts and biodivserity loss. TRANSCEND focusses on integrated adaptation, mitigation and biodiversity solutions in three landscapes in the Philippines. In a whole-of-society approach the project is piloting a transition process to a climate resilient, low carbon and biodiversity friendly society. It works across all levels of government to ensure decision making takes place as close as possible to the target population. Partnerships between government, private sector and civil society enhance actions to reach international climate change and biodiversity commitments. Community based conservation and planning will lead to larger natural carbon sinks and more resilient local government units. Innovative technology and seed funding for private sector investments accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, while decision support systems across all levels of government improve policies and climate finance.
