Rural Grid II - Decreasing the Emissions intensity of power supply (commissioned by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ))
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Rehabilitation and modernization of power grid in rural areas in Northern, Central and Southern Vietnam in order to reduce losses and avoid CO2 emissions and to ensure a reliable and cost-effective power supply.
Installation of new meters, rehabilitation and upgrade of substations and MV & LV lines in rural grid.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In Vietnam, carbon intensity has steadily increased between 1990 and 2019 where it is approximately 70tCO2/TJ. This reflects the continuously high share of fossil fuels in the energy mix. The level of energy use per capita is closely related to economic development, climatic conditions and the price of energy. Energy use per capita in Vietnam is 40 GJ/capita, but increased by 24% in the five years between 2014 and 2019
