PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Philippines, under its 2021 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), commits to a 75% reduction and avoidance of GHG emissions by 2030, with only 2.71% unconditional and the rest dependent on international support. The energy sector, especially transport, is a major emitter, contributing 20.44% of national emissions in 2000 and growing steadily until the pandemic. Road transport dominates, heavily reliant on fossil fuel imports, with tricycles and jeepneys being common public transport modes. To meet climate and energy goals, the Philippines is promoting electric mobility (e-mobility), focusing on road transport electrification to reduce GHG emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and decrease reliance on imported petroleum. As of 2019, around 12,000 EVs were registered, and multiple government agencies are working—often with international partners—to support the growing e-mobility sector. The project supports these national goals while aligning with renewable energy targets (35% by 2030, 50% by 2040) and long-term energy security.
