PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The project aims to accelerate clean energy and energy efficiency adoption in Lanao del Sur, supporting the Philippines’ NDC, NREP 2020–2040, and regional development priorities in BARMM. It focuses on expanding renewable energy systems in public health facilities to ensure reliable and affordable electricity, improving healthcare services for around 40,000 households annually. The project also seeks to demonstrate scalable RE and EE solutions, encouraging broader public and private investment in the region.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aims to accelerate the adoption of clean energy, energy efficiency, and just energy transition in the province of Lanao del Sur (LDS) in support of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of the Philippines, the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) 2020-2040 and as a contribution to peace and development in the region following the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) 12-point Priority Agenda. It will support the expansion of renewable energy facilities in the provincial hospital and commission three (3) additional public health facilities units to ensure access to reliable, affordable energy supply. The project will serve the needs of an average of 40,000 households annually. LDS represents at least 30% of the population in BARMM. Despite hosting the major power plants in the region, it remains energy-poor with power voltage dropping from 220V to 100V. This power drop has damaged hospital equipment and disturbs medical services, especially during climate and conflict-induced calamities.Scaling up initiatives in the area and facilitating the preparation of local renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) plans and projects will demonstrate the viability of RE and EE solutions at broader or regional levels, leading to increased public and private sector investments in the sector.
