PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) addresses this gap between cities and finance by providing support to cities in developing and emerging economies to develop finance-ready projects. The CFF supports cities to develop financially sound business proposals for projects that they have identified as priorities and ensures that city administrations retain skills and structures to enable cities to prepare a pipeline of low carbon and climate resilient infrastructure projects.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The CFF is a UNFCCC award-winning project preparation facility that focuses on three components: preparing climate relevant infrastructure projects for financial readiness, linking projects to finance, and replicating and upscaling projects, proven approaches, and instruments.

In the Philippines, the CFF assisted the Quezon City (the largest constituent city of metro Manila) in developing the business case for solar rooftops on 50 public schools and hospitals in the city. The city will then be able to roll-out solar rooftops to all public schools, public buildings, and social housing projects.

In Indonesia, the CFF implemented an operational trial fleet of 100 e-buses in the network of TransJakarta, which will contribute to Jakarta’s target of promoting public transport mode share to 60% as well as to 100% electrify TransJakarta’s fleet in 2030.

The CFF currently supports Jakarta in the preparation of a rooftop solar panel project, alongside energy efficiency measures, in 28 public hospitals. This project aims to reduce the reliance of public hospitals in Jakarta on fossil fuels, which currently provide more than 92% of the city's energy.

In Malaysia, the CFF is working with the City of Kuala Lumpur to develop a District Cooling System (DCS) that will draw water from the Gombak River to cool two Municipal towers in the city centre, and on a second energy project in KL that will reduce energy consumption in 27 public buildings through renewable energy and energy efficiency measures, such as the installation of solar photovoltaic systems and energy audits.

*Please note that the budget indicated is for the whole project.
