Promotion of Quality Assurance Services for Sustainable Energy in Vietnam II

The project strengthens Viet Nam’s quality infrastructure for photovoltaic energy so that internationally recognised standards, metrology and conformity-assessment services are more widely available and used, improving the quality, safety and sustainability of PV installations.

Low Carbon Infrastructure and Development PASA – Hydropower, Pumped Storage and Floating Solar Expansion

The activity assesses how hydropower, pumped storage and floating solar PV can be expanded and combined with variable renewable energy to support reliable electricity supply and stable operation of Viet Nam’s power system.

Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Solar (CIRTS)

The Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Solar Project aims to improve the preconditions for a sustainable development of the market. Its focuses are the adaptation of relevant regulatory and technical regulations, the development of key stakeholder capacities and the improvement of EVN’s information base.

Sustainable Energy for Indonesia’s Advancing Resilience (SINAR)

USAID SINAR  builds upon the longstanding commitment and partnership between the U.S. Government and the Government of Indonesia in climate change mitigation in the energy sector. Through SINAR, USAID will help national and subnational governments, state-owned energy utilities, businesses, financial institutions (such as banks), universities, and other key players to :

  • Accelerate the deployment of advanced energy systems;
  • Improve the performance of energy utilities;
  • Advocate for transparent and best value procurement, and
  • Strengthen the institutional frameworks and capacity for energy sector transformation.

 

Collectively, these efforts will help Indonesia meet its ambitious renewable energy and energy efficiency targets while driving energy transformation that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. USAID SINAR works at the national level, while simultaneously engaging local governments in selected provinces to align national and sub-national plans and programs.

Through institutional strengthening, the public vocational training body Balai Latihan Kerja (BLK) Kupang is being positioned to offer excellent vocational trainings for Solar Photovoltaic installations to NTT’s aspiring young population, thereby raising their qualification and employment opportunities.

Vietnam Solar Transition Accelerator (VISTA)

The Development Objective is to support the Government of Vietnam in implementing a sustainable solar competitive
bidding program to mobilize private investments at scale.

The expected key results of the Vietnam Solar Transition Accelerator project are:
-  Launch and implementation of a Pilot Substation-Based Competitive Bidding (500 MW pilot bidding) 
- Private capital mobilized under the Pilot Substation-Based Competitive Bidding (US$ 375 million mobilized)
- Reduction in carbon emissions (18 million CO2 tons for the 25 years of the solar projects life)
- Development of a pipeline of solar

Vietnam Urban Energy Security

The USAID Vietnam Urban Energy Security project works closely with the Government of Vietnam (GVN) at the city, provincial, and national levels to improve legislation related to clean energy, mobilize investment, and increase the adoption and deployment of innovative energy solutions.

Construction of Se San 4 solar power plant

Se San 4 Solar Power Plant Project with a capacity of 49MWp was officially connected to the national power system. By design, the plant will contribute annually an average of 72.4 million kWh to the power system.

Thai-German Climate Programme: TGCP

In its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Thailand committed to reducing 20-25% of emissions from the energy, transport, waste and industry sectors by 2030 below business as usual

 

Main activities under TGCP-Energy are:

  • Conduct studies and develop policy recommendation papers on GHG mitigation-related topics (e.g. Renewable Energy Forecast, Electrification system for remote areas or islands in Thailand, MRV system for energy sector etc.), and provincial energy data management roadmap.
  • Design and develop innovative tools to assist the energy planning process, namely energy system modeling and the integrated energy planning platform.
  • Strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Energy’s staff in renewable energy, emerging energy technologies, climate change and effective energy planning process.
  • Develop provincial energy scenarios for Thai pilot provinces to support their planning process.
  • Support the implementation of project / activities under the provincial energy action plan in the pilot provinces.
  • Transfer knowledge and build up capacity of Thai institutions in the development of provincial energy scenarios.

Access to Sustainable Energy Programme (EU-ASEP)

The overall objective of ASEP is to assist the Government of the Philippines in expanding its sustainable energy generation to meet the growing needs of its economy, and provide energy access to the poor and marginalized sector in accordance with the Philippine Development Plan. The Government of the Philippines is working on the following energy objectives:

  • Meeting its rural electrification targets by means of renewable energy;
  • Promoting energy efficiency; 
  • Expanding its sustainable energy generation to meet the growing needs of its economy; and
  • Providing energy access for the poor through affordable, disaster-resilient energy systems.
