Indonesia Accelerating Indonesia’s Clean Energy Transition Program (Phase 1)
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Aligned with Indonesia's development objective to reach high-income status by 2045 through economic, social and governance transformation, the Government of Indonesia seeks to expand clean and secure energy supply. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has prioritized meeting the government's goals in its country partnership strategy for Indonesia, 20252029, and is partnering with the government to support a scalable energy transition.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The results-based lending (RBL) program will support PLN in achieving results directly linked to a cleaner electricity supply, thus contributing to environmental and population health benefits by (i) facilitating the transition to renewable clean electricity supply in partnership with the private sector, (ii) strengthening power grid infrastructure for renewable energy integration, and (iii) enhancing institutional capacity to manage an energy transition. Achievement of results under the program will enable Indonesia to avoid emissions of at least 2.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent per year and build a foundation for reducing its reliance on fossil fuel. By supporting the realization of Indonesia's ambitions for renewable energy and power grid development, the program also contributes to the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) vision to create a fully integrated regional power network across Southeast Asia.
