PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Indonesia has one of the world's greatest potentials for geothermal power development, and is expected to play a major role in increasing demand for electricity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the future. In 2011, the government of Indonesia established the Geothermal Power Exploration Fund to contribute funds for exploration drilling in order to reduce the burden of business risks such as exploration drilling failures that may occur in geothermal development. In addition, the government of Japan is promoting geothermal development in accordance with its Comprehensive Plan for Electricity Supply (2019-2028), which calls for a threefold increase in geothermal power generation capacity by 2028, from approximately 2,000 megawatts in 2007 to approximately 6,000 megawatts in 2028. Under this cooperation (Phase 2), the project will support the development of policies and systems to promote geothermal development, strengthen the capacity of relevant institutions, and revise the master plan, thereby contributing to the development and operation of policies to promote geothermal development in the country.
