The Asia-Pacific is vital for clean energy transition with cross-border power system connectivity facilitating renewable energy integration, cost reduction, and enhanced energy security. The Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) under ASEAN Power Grid (APG) has made notable progress in multilateral trade. The current ASEAN Chairmanship aims to further advance agreements for multilateral power trading. In 2019, the IEA published the "Establishing Multilateral Power Trade in ASEAN" report, providing recommendations and requirements for multilateral power trade. Capacity building workshops in 2022 prepared AERN for their role. In 2023, capacity building expands to involve energy ministries and utilities, focusing on practical implementation in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region.
