Advancing Energy Transition and Regional Power Trade in the Greater Mekong Subregion and Southeast Asia

The technical assistance (TA) aims to accelerate the energy transition and enhance regional power trade in select Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and ASEAN countries under the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative. It supports project preparation, knowledge sharing, and capacity development in Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Accelerating Private Sector Development for Green and Inclusive Growth in Southeast Asia

1. Improve understanding of barriers to private sector development (PSD). 2. Strengthen stakeholder engagement to create a more supportive enabling environment for PSD, particularly in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation. 3. D15 nhance coordination and coherence in the execution of ADB-supported upstream, midstream, and downstream PSD activities, aligned with climate change goals.

ASEAN Green Map in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Viet Nam

1. Chart a course for ASEAN’s sustainable finance efforts. It would establish a unified ASEAN vision for sustainable finance and serve as an overarching guide for all ASEAN Member States (AMS) in addressing the urgent need to foster an inclusive green transition which includes scaling up sustainable financing and accelerating towards Paris Agreement and 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. 2. Draw the attention of the ASEAN Senior Level Committee on Financial Integration (SLC), relevant ASEAN financial sectoral bodies, networks, initiatives, and other stakeholders to the key priorities of the sustainable finance agenda. The roadmap will also help inform the broader SLC agenda on climate and sustainability, future workplans of the SLC Task Force on Sustainable Finance (SLC-TF), and other relevant ASEAN work.

Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition Project (ALCBT)
The ALCBT aims to significantly reduce GHG emissions by catalyzing nationwide transitions towards LCB in the project countries. The project focuses on ensuring that technical, planning and institutional tools for LCB are successfully implemented and streamlined by key public and private stakeholders, resulting in direct emission reductions by 2028. – Standardized tools and systems for managing building carbon emissions – Enhanced capacity of key stakeholders to deliver low carbon buildings – Financial pathways established for low carbon buildings transition – Knowledge products produced to facilitate replication and scaling up

Deep decarbonization of Thai industries based on the emission trading system and carbon border adjustment mechanism

To support Thailand in effectively implementing a climate-just Net Zero National Pathway (NZNP), with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the industry and building sectors through policy enhancement, capacity building, technology demonstration, and financial mechanisms.

Decarbonization of the cement and concrete sectors in Thailand

The program aims to support the decarbonization of Thailand’s cement and concrete sectors by strengthening policies, deploying low-carbon technologies, and mobilizing investments. It promotes green public procurement, develops emissions standards, and builds local capacity through training and regional knowledge exchange.

Thailand NDC target through incentivizing use of EV

This project was funded by the Government of Japan to explore barriers and enhance enabling conditions to incentivize customers to drive EVs. The objective of the project is to establish the SDG & EV Climate Credit Programme to support the country’s vision on the NDC target and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by incentivizing local electric vehicle drivers/organizations to earn credit for driving clean.

ETAF Platform

Bloomberg Philanthropies and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) announced a new COP28 partnership. This partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of clean energy and mobilize capital in emerging markets and developing economies. Bloomberg Philanthropies’ support will enable IRENA to advance efforts to drive the widespread adoption of renewable energy and reduce political, technical, and financial barriers to the energy transition by building capacities in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, strengthening project finance and preparation through the Energy Transition Accelerator Financing (ETAF) Platform , and facilitating private capital mobilization.
