PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The southwestern part of Mindanao (now the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, which will become the Bangsamoro Region in the future) is the most impoverished region in the Philippines due to over 40 years of conflict. It also has the highest poverty rate in the Philippines, due in part to more than 40 years of conflict. The region has a low electrification rate of 35 percent, compared to the country's average of 87 percent (National Electrification Agency (NEA) data, September 2016), which is an impediment to the region's economic development. In the Bangsamoro region, seven ECs manage the electricity distribution network in their respective jurisdictions, but the aging of the network, the risk of power outages due to malfunctioning distribution equipment, and the high rate of power distribution losses are becoming problematic. Through this cooperation, we will procure equipment for the maintenance of power distribution networks in the region, strengthen the capacity of each EC to maintain their own power distribution networks, and reinforce and stabilize the power supply infrastructure. This will promote the improvement of social services and industrial development in the region, and contribute to the prevention of recurrence of conflicts by enabling the residents of the region to enjoy and feel the "dividends of peace.
