Project for Development of a Model System for Fluidized Bed Catalytic Gasification of Biomass Wastes and Following Liquid Fuel Production in Indonesia
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

This project aims to develop a cost-effective biomass gasification and methanol synthesis system using locally available clay catalysts and a stable fluidized bed design. It seeks to establish appropriate technology for Indonesia’s conditions, promoting renewable energy use through biomass waste utilization and supporting sustainable power and fuel production.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In this project, we will develop a highly stable internal circulating fluidized bed that can be applied to various biomass wastes by using a low-cost clay catalyst that is easily available in Indonesia and by giving the circulating fluidized bed a loop seal structure that is less likely to become unstable under a wide range of operating conditions. Furthermore, by connecting this to an energy-saving low-pressure methanol synthesis process that does not require advanced operational control, we will establish a biomass gasification and methanol synthesis process as an appropriate technology suitable for use in developing countries. By building a thermochemical gasification and liquid fuel production system suitable for Indonesia's economic and technical conditions, we will promote the spread of gasification power generation and liquid fuel production systems using biomass waste, which is abundant in the country, and contribute to promoting the use of renewable energy in Indonesia.
