Indonesia Hydropower Development for Energy Security and Grid Flexibility
PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The project aims to increase the supply of clean, affordable, and climate-resilient hydroelectricity.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project supports Indonesia’s NDC commitments by expanding hydropower capacity while strengthening PLN’s capability to develop sustainable projects through its subsidiary, Nusantara Power. It includes capacity building, updated feasibility and safeguard assessments, and adoption of international best practices to minimize environmental and social impacts, particularly in biodiversity-rich areas such as Kalimantan and Maluku. The project incorporates measures such as fish passages and comprehensive climate and geophysical risk management to enhance the resilience of infrastructure, ecosystems, and communities, while improving the utility’s ability to assess risks and identify suitable project locations.
