Hawai’I Asia pacific Regional Energy System Assessment (APRESA) ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study (AIMS) III Support

AIMS III seeks to address: rapid changes in the economic landscape and electricity supply; renewable energy integration (including the ASEAN RE target of 23% of the energy mix by 2025); benefits and challenges of higher variable renewable energy (VRE) integration; adoption of new emerging technologies; and the sustainability and advancement of multilateral power trade.

HNEI GridSTART provided training to the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), an intergovernmental organization within the ASEAN structure representing the AMS interests in the energy sector, on production cost analysis and use of the PLEXOS software tool to empower ACE personnel to more effectively carry out project management duties for the AIMS III study.

Flextool 2021/22

Countries exploring ways to ramp up solar and wind energy on their power grids should first conduct thorough flexibility assessments. The IRENA FlexTool performs power system flexibility assessments based on national capacity investment plans and forecasts.

FlexTool assessments reflect full power system dispatch and offer a detailed view of options for flexible generation, demand-side flexibility and energy storage, alongside sector-coupling technologies such as power-to-heat, electric vehicles and hydrogen production through electrolysis.

The freely accessible, user-friendly FlexTool can analyse system operations using a time resolution aligned with real-world system challenges – a resolution of an hour or less in the case of variable renewable energy sources. It also provides least-cost optimisation of the generation mix combined with flexibility solutions for the grid, storage, demand-side response and sector coupling.

January 2021 - June 2023
Renewable Energy Skills Development (RESD)

This project in Indonesia funded by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO aims to help address the shortage of qualified workers in the renewable energy sector.

SFUVET complements the technical expertise of the four participating universities of applied sciences (see document under further information) and ensure that the training is provided in accordance with Switzerland's pedagogical and didactic quality requirements. In addition, SFUVET will support the project team in organising public events in Switzerland. In this way, SFUVET is helping to strengthen renewable energies in Indonesia and create more and better jobs in this sector.

Climate, Environment, Energy and Disaster Risk Reduction (CEED) for Children I Indonesia 2022-2025

Our new Strategic Plan recognizes that climate change and environmental degradation are existential threats to a child’s ability to survive, grow, and thrive and that all levers of the organization need to
work together in a coordinated fashion. The new SP draws stronger links between responses to climate change with disaster risk reduction as children increasingly need holistic solutions that address both sudden-onset impacts of disasters, including those that are exacerbated by climate change — such as hurricanes and floods — and resilient solutions that promote climate-smart development for the long-term. The new SP activates all of UNICEF’s levers of impact on these
issues - our global programmes, our advocacy and communications infrastructure and our own operations and supply chain.
