One of the main debates within the discourse of energy transition in Indonesia is between retiring coal-fired powerplants (CFPP) early and to utilize renewable energy or to keep CFPP running and utilizing carbon-capture and storage to lower greenhouse gas emission from burning coals. CASE’s Studi Skenario Indonesia Emas (SERIES) is an exercise that projects energy demand and supply in Indonesia to support the Long- and Medium-Development Planning of the Directorate of Electricity, Telecommunication, and Informatics under the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas. The exercise estimates that electricity demand will grow to 1155 TWh in 2045, tripling the demand of 2021 due to economic and population growth. The electricity demand projection is in-line with and in consideration for other existing modelling works. Hence, demand of electricity will serve the basis for simulating the needs of electric power systems encompassing generation and transmission
