Access to Sustainable Energy

The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to increase household access to solar powered electricity within select electric cooperat ive service areas.

January 2016 - December 2023
Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy (CASE) for Southeast Asia

CASE aims to drive change in the power sector in SEA towards increased ambitions with regards to climate change. It is a regional program that focuses on four countries: Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam which represent around 80% of the total energy share in SEA. Therefore, the energy development of those countries will have a major impact on the ability of the region to meet its goals.

Sustainable Energy for Indonesia’s Advancing Resilience (SINAR)

USAID SINAR  builds upon the longstanding commitment and partnership between the U.S. Government and the Government of Indonesia in climate change mitigation in the energy sector. Through SINAR, USAID will help national and subnational governments, state-owned energy utilities, businesses, financial institutions (such as banks), universities, and other key players to :

  • Improve the performance of energy utilities;
  • Advocate for transparent and best value procurement, and
  • Strengthen the institutional frameworks and capacity for energy sector transformation.

USAID SINAR works at the national level, while simultaneously engaging local governments in selected provinces to align national and sub-national plans and programs.

January 2021 - December 2026
Solar-Aquaculture Habitats as Resource-Efficient and Integrated Multilayer Production Systems (SHRIMPS)

The SHRIMPS project aims to reduce freshwater consumption, wastewater, CO2 emissions and pollutant inputs as well as achieve farms’ greater resilience to the impacts of climate change. It will also improve the economic situation of rural areas in the Mekong region, contribute to greater energy security, promote sustainable shrimp breeding methods and create a platform for international and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer.

August 2019 - May 2023
Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP)

Through V-LEEP, USAID and the GVN work together to harmonize national strategies, laws, policies, and regulations in order to encourage the rapid deployment of cost-effective clean energy. One example of this work is V-LEEP’s efforts with Vietnam’s Central Economic Commission, where the team is assisting develop of a strategy to include clean energy as a fundamental building block for the nation’s energy security. V-LEEP is also working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to help transform Vietnam’s power market through innovative policy approaches and modern data analysis.

V-LEEP is helping GVN to simplify regulatory procedures for renewable energy (RE) projects, as the country seeks to power its homes and businesses with its own abundant and clean natural resources (wind, solar, and biomass). The V-LEEP team works with project developers and financial institutions to collect and share information to facilitate the construction of RE generation projects and in doing so advance the national goal of expanding RE to ten percent of total generation by 2030. V-LEEP’s efforts also include collaborating with the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam to enable the use of Direct Power Purchase Agreements (DPPA), an internationally tested RE procurement mechanism. DPPA leverages the purchasing power of large corporations, corporate sustainability commitments, and foreign direct
